Meet the crew
It all started out in the 1990’s with Tony Laithwaite, flying a bunch of Aussie winemakers (the ‘Flying Winemakers’) over to France to show the old dogs some new tricks. This is where the RedHeads seed was sown for a new wave in winemaking.
We setup in McLaren Vale, South Australia in 2002, in an old restaurant, called RedHeads! The site was used by moonlighting winemakers to break free from the corporate shackles to come and make “real” wines, the way they wanted to. Tiny batches, hands-on, interesting blends and big flavours.
Now our roots are firmly planted in the Barossa and we have a custom-built winery with sustainability at the core and our own dedicated team.
Our principals are the same. Our aim… grape liberation. We hunt down premium parcels of fruit that was destined to be blended into some big name, nondescript wine and we give it the attention it deserves in the RedHeads winery.
We work with over 20 different varieties, all kept separate in the winery and all going on to form wines with individuality and unique character. No two wines are the same.
We can’t save them all, but we try. The “Movement” goes on.

Operations Manager / Chief Winemaker
Our RedHeads Chief Winemaker and Operations Manager, the man with the grape liberating plan; taking us to daring new heights.
Almost born into RedHeads, Tom was there from the beginning in 2002 as a fresh-faced 18-year-old. His dad Tony might have got him into wine, but it was RedHeads that made him love it.
Henry’s winemaking experience extends to the Rhône, Bordeaux, the Ardèche and Australia including at the original RedHeads Studio in the McLaren Vale. He still returns every year to make his beloved Wilson Gunn.
Sales and Marketing
Alex is the face of the brand for anyone in the Northern hemisphere. His passion is boundless, knowledge endless and can be found shouting about anything and everything RedHeads to whoever wants to listen.
Production & Logistics
Jane manages all the production and logistics for RedHeads wines ensuring they are bottled, packaged and delivered accurately.
Where would the team be without her attention to detail?
Production & logistics
Taking over Jane’s crucial role while she is on maternity leave, Petrina has slid seamlessly into the team managing RedHeads production and logistics.
Working alongside Alex making the bevy of RedHeads wines crafted in the RedHeads Village, Darren can be found tending fastidiously over the wines in the winery.
